R. Loren Frey, age 53, of Independence, Missouri, died June 29, 2006 in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis following a lengthy illness.

Born May 14, 1953 in Midland, Michigan, he was a 1971 graduate of Ontario High School and had attended Bluffton College and The Ohio State University. Loren worked at the Mansfield News Journal and later spent 19 years employed with Sprint in Warren, and Mansfield, Ohio, Plymouth, Indiana and Kansas City, Missouri. An accomplished vocalist, he was active in the World Wide Church of God as a Worship Leader and enjoyed participating in musicals at The Mansfield Playhouse.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Baltzell) Frey whom he wed August 11, 1984; two sons; Jonathan and Nathan Frey, both of Phoenix, AZ; a granddaughter, Akira Frey of Phoenix; his parents, Robert E. and Mariella Frey of Mansfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Sheryl Frey of South Hadley, Mass.; two sisters and a brother-in-law; Lori and Brant Hosack of Mt. Gilead and Sonya Hobbs of Columbus; his mother-in-law, Lois Baltzell of Independence, MO; a brother-in-law and spouse, Keith and Mary Baltzell of Mansfield; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Megan and Zachary Hosack, T.J. and Tessa Frey and Keith Baltzell, Jr.; his aunt and unlce Bill and Chris Smith of Shelby; his biological family; Gerildine Sanborn and Loren Trombley, parents; Laura Roberson, sister; Bruce Reed, brother; many special friends (you know who you are); and his beloved pets, Emily, TK and Cricket.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend John Peterson will officiate with interment in North Fork Cemetery, Johnsville, OH. Friends may call at the funeral home, Monday, July 3 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to Midwest Transplant Network.
