Berniece Griffeth, age 97, of Shelby died on August 1, 2017 at her residence.
Born on February 23, 1920 to George W. and Wanda I. (Stoner) Barnes she was a lifelong Shelby resident living on the same family farm for 97 years. A 1937 graduate of Shelby High School, she was employed with Shelby Business Forms retiring in 1985. Berniece was then employed at the Sportman's Den in Shelby working with her family until the age of 96. She was passionate about her hard work ethic and looked forward to each day at the store.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
When not working, Berniece enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and watching the birds outside her back window. However, her greatest joy in life was working at the Sportsman's Den with her family.
She is survived by son Gregg (Marte) Griffeth of Shelby; one daughter Lynne (Gary) Hummel of Shelby; two grandchildren Tasha Hummel and Craig Eshelman of Shelby and Jake (Laura) Hummel of Shelby; a great-grandson due in November; two nephews Mike Barnes of Shelby and Steve List of Lorain and other relatives.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ed Griffeth in 1963; one brother George "Bud" Barnes and one sister Fran List.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, August 7, 2017 from the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory. Pastor Ed Legg will officiate with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Plymouth. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM.
