Welcome to the memorial page for

Charles J Biglin

October 8, 1948 ~ November 3, 2017 (age 69) 69 Years Old
Charles J. "Butch" Biglin, age 69, resident of Shelby died unexpectedly Friday, November 3, 2017 in OSU Wexler Medical Center in Columbus.

Born October 8, 1948 in Shelby to Ernest J. and Dolores (Heiland) Biglin he had been a lifelong Shelby area resident. A 1966 graduate of Shelby High School, he had played football on the undefeated NOL winning 1965-66 Shelby Whippet football team. In football, Butch made friendships that developed into teammates for life. Butch was employed with AMF, Inc. for twenty two years and presently with the "Tuby", Arcelor Mittal, for twenty nine years for a combined total of fifty one years of work.

Butch spanned five decades of coaching, having coached his daughter Jennifer's Shelby Girls Softball team, his son Joe's Shelby Little League Team and his grandson Ben in Little League. He was an avid sports fan and was a faithful follower of the Shelby Whippets, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers. He loved playing football and baseball and sharing memories with his friends Denny, Jack and Jim.

Even though he was infatuated with sports the needs of his family came first. He adored being "Paps" to his grandson. Despite all the people and things he adored, there was no one in the world that meant more to him than his longtime sweetheart and best friend of more than 44 years, Cathy (Newland) Biglin. To watch them in each other's presence was to know love.

He was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and helped with many other tasks. Although Butch was quiet spoken about his faith, the way he lived and worked spoke volumes about his love for God.

He is survived by his wife Cathy (Newland) Biglin, whom he married June 23, 1973; his daughter Jennifer K. Lacy, of Shelby; his son Joe K. Biglin, of Bucyrus; his grandson Ben Lacy; two sisters Jeanne Metzger and Judy Biglin both of Shelby; his mother-in-law Helen Milliron of Shelby and father-in-law Frank (Char) Newland of Indiana; two brothers-in-law Frank (Jan) Newland and Russ (Betty) Newland all of Shelby; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step father Wayne "Bud" Milliron and one brother-in-law Robert Metzger.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Tuesday November 7, 2017 from the Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Dave Carter will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby, Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.
