Donald D. Boyce age 82, of Shelby died Saturday morning May 6, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. Born October 25, 1934 in Shelby to Charley Baker & Goldie Faye (Shade) Boyce, Donald has been a Shelby resident his entire life. He was a graduate of Union High School, Class of 52 and then served his country in the U.S. Army in Alaska. Don worked at Empire Steel for 23½ years as a yardmaster and also retired from Comair Airlines as a pilot.
He loved to go roller skating, line dancing, farming and flying.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Miriam (Smith) Boyce of Ft. Wayne, IN; three sons, Kenneth (Sharon) Boyce of Mansfield, Michael (Judith) Boyce and Randy (Lynelle) Boyce all of Shelby; two stepsons; three granddaughters, Amanda (Jorden) Seiter, Tiffany Teegarden and Keri (David) Greene, two grandsons, Samuel and Dalton Boyce; two great grandchildren, Adley and Owen Seiter; six step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen (Ron) Mawhorr of Lexington and Carol Patterson of Marion; sister-in-law, Ellen Boyce of Shelby and numerous nieces and nephews. Also special friends the Reed family of Iowa and the Norcross family of Strongsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Junior and Lyle Boyce; sister, Naomi Jean Boyce; brother-in-law, Bill Patterson and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Thursday May 11, 2017 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. Pastor Derek Hickman of the Faith United Methodist Church in Mansfield will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 PM and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorial expressions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association in care of the funeral home.
