Gerald E. Wilson

Gerald E. Wilson, age 73 of Mansfield, died Friday evening May 27, 2016 at Kindred in Mansfield following a long illness.

Born August 8, 1942 in Shelby to Cecil and Guthrie (Elliott) Wilson, he had been a Tampa, Florida resident for ten years, returning to Shelby in 1989.  Mr. Wilson was employed as a truck driver for F & J Trucking, General Highway Express and was also employed with Gorman Rupp Co.  He was a member of the Shelby American Legion O'Brien Post #326 and the Mansfield American Legion and also served with the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by three children; one sister and brother-in-law, Patsy (Wilson) and Roger D. Payne of Ontario; one brother, Ronald (Faye) Wilson of Shelby; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends.  
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday May 31, 2016 from 10:00 AM- 11:00AM. Graveside service will follow after calling hours at Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will honor Gerald with services at the cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
