Harold C Laser

Harold C. Laser, age 92, resident of Shelby, died Monday, November 9, 2015 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Born July 25, 1923 in Bloominggrove Township in Richland County to Jay L. and Rhea O. (Latimer) Laser, he has been an area resident the majority of his life. 

Harold served in North Africa and Italy during WWII. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Harold used his GI Bill to train as a machinist for the Fate-Root-Heath Co. in Plymouth, where he eventually became the Plant Manager. He was then transferred to Midvale, Ohio and managed Raymond Machine. 

After retiring in 1985 and moving back to Shelby, he and his wife spent countless hours volunteering for their church and the Richland County Fair Board. He loved working in his vegetable and rose gardens, and making crafts and furniture out of wood.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Martha (Myers) Laser, whom he wed July 23, 1946; four sons, Larry (Patricia) Laser of Plymouth, Jack (Holly) Laser of Memphis, TN, Mike (Norma) Laser of Willard, Dennis (Teri) Laser of Greenwich; one daughter Joyce Whisler of New Washington; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one brother Nyle Laser of Gahanna.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother Carl, sister Donna Devore, brother Dale, and great-grandson Mason Bell.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday November 13, 2015 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Pastor Brad McBee will officiate with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Friends may call at the Funeral Home Thursday from 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Fair Board.
