Joseph T. Monn, Jr., age 69, resident of Shelby, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in OhioHealth MedCentral Hospital of Mansfield with his loving wife by his side. 

Born February 22, 1946 in Shelby to Joseph T. and Erma (Kleinknecht) Monn he had been a Shelby resident the majority of his life. A 1966 graduate of Shelby High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving as and E5 drill sergeant at Fort Knox, KY during the Vietnam Era. During  high school and after he returned from the service, he was employed with GSA located in the Shelby Depot. He worked 17 years with Tech Form Industries until they closed their doors and then was employed with the Ohio Steel Tube Co. for 18 years retiring in 2009.

He was a member of the Shelby Church of the Nazarene where he had worked the sound booth and served on the church board. 

Joe loved to drive back country roads and enjoyed traveling, collecting belt buckles, and taking vacations. He also enjoyed entertaining friends and get togethers with the church small group Bible studies. 

Survivors include his loving wife, Clara (Bingley) Monn, whom he wed June 18, 1966; nieces and nephews Ann (Oscar) Barnett of Tiro, Kevin (Shelley) Moorhead of Jeromesville, Joy (Stacy) Pierce of Shelby, Robert Monn of California, Al Monn, and Tressa Britt; two cousins, Ken (Joyce) Hubert of Mansfield and Jim (Vera) Bridges of Mt. Vernon; his aunts, Gladys Deppe of Ontario and Alice Monn of Shelby, and his faithful canine companion, Sadie.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Monn and two sisters, Arlene Burks and Carol Moorhead. 

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Shelby Church of the Nazarene, 169 Mansfield Ave., Shelby. Reverend Lester Champer will officiate with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven. Military honors will be provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene.
