Joshua Laferty

Joshua Laferty age 84, of Tiro passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 7, 1933 in Hippo, Kentucky to Lonnie and Poppy (Shepherd) Laferty, he had been a Tiro resident for 43 years. 

Joshua was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War Era. He had been a Tool and Dye maker for Plymouth Locomotive for 50 years, retiring in 1999. A talented mechanic, he could fix a car just by listening to its engine. He had worked armor recon in Ft. Hood, TX fixing Tanks. Joshua enjoyed the outdoors, he loved to camp, and go hunting, and fishing.

Joshua is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred (Simmermacher) Laferty, whom he wed May 2, 1952; children, Betty (Charles) Osborne of Tiro, Robert Lee (Debbie) Laferty of Tiro, Martha Jean (Kevin) Phelps of Crestline, Cathy Jo (Bruce) Petty of Tiro, Dennis (Amanda) Laferty of Tiro, Joshua Jr. (Colleen) Laferty of Nevada; thirty-one grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; four siblings Linda Smith of Norwalk, Ossey Collins of Sandusky, Art (Joann) Laferty of Crestline, Marie Young of Sandusky and Mickey (Edith) Laferty of Glassgow, KY.

In addition to his parents Joshua was preceded in death by ten siblings two grandchildren Megan Cathleen and Kevin Phelps Jr..

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. His grandson, Dennis Laferty Jr. will officiate with interment held in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, at a later date.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00PM to 5:00 PM, two hours prior to the service, Tuesday.
