LeRoy C. Dill, age 84, longtime Shelby resident, passed away May 1, 2015, at the Ohio Veteran's Home in Sandusky, Ohio, surrounded by his family.

LeRoy was born on June 15, 1930, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Carl and Elsie (Stevens) Dill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Marcia, with whom he shared 56 years of wonderful marriage until she passed away in 2009. His family was the cornerstone of his life.

By age 14, LeRoy was running the family dairy farm as well as maintaining honor roll grades and developing into an all-state athlete in both baseball and basketball. LeRoy graduated from Union High School in 1948. After graduation, he served his country in the army, including spending a year in occupied Germany. Upon his discharge, he married Marcia Payne on March 27, 1953, and immediately reported to the Cleveland Indians minor league camp. After a brief but successful baseball career he was employed at the Shelby Business Forms where he worked for 39 years, retiring in 1992 as Plant Superintendent. LeRoy was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Shelby.

LeRoy is survived by his children, Dr. Jeff (Cindy) Dill of Athens, Chris (Becky) Dill of Bowling Green, and Dee Dee (Randy) Faggionato of Norwalk; five grandchildren, Erin (Dr. John) Ross, Dr. Evan (Jenna) Dill, Nolan Dill, Olivia Dill and Benjamin Faggionato, four great grandchildren, Brenna, Ava, Tessa, and Lila Ross; and his sister, Wilma Barnes of Scottsdale, AZ. The many accomplishments of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great pride in his later years.

In addition to his wife and family he was greeted in heaven by his life-long friend, Ken Gates, and his four beloved canine friends, Skip, Amos, Nicki, and Sam.

LeRoy will forever be fondly remembered for his incredible work ethic, his devotion to family, and his punctuality.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby where military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Veterans Burial Detail.
