Leonard E. McAuley, Jr., age 73, passed on from a short illness Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital.
Born January 12, 1944 in Mansfield, Ohio to Leonard and Ethel (Gregg) McAuley, he grew up in Butler, Ohio. Leonard attended Butler High School, and in 1962 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1968. He was a proud member of the 101st Airborne Division. In 1969 he moved to Shelby, met his future wife, Jocelyn, and worked at "The Tuby" for 38 years until retiring in 2009.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and rejoiced being an usher. He was a proud, active member of the Lion's Club for many years, and always loved volunteering with the Shelby Helpline Ministries. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland sports teams, the Buckeyes, and his favorite, the Shelby Whippets. His favorite activity was spending time with loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, whom he wed June, 26, 1971, Jocelyn (Armstrong) McAuley; two sons, Ryan and Adam McAuley of Columbus; One Brother, Jim (Mary Lou); four sisters, Pat Craner of Butler, Dorthy McClure of Florida, Helen Gehm of Florida, and Sara (David) Downey of Georgia; a special "grandson," Joshua Yee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelby. Rev. Dr. Edna Stahl will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
