Lucille E. Johnson, age 94 , resident of Crestline passed away at her home Wednesday, September 20, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 11, 1923 in Butler, Ohio to Wilbur L. and Nellie (Bemiller) Humphrey she had been an Akron resident for thirty years before moving to Shelby in 1972.
Mrs. Johnson was a 1940 graduate of Lexington High School and completed her bachelors degree in Science. She had been a substitute teacher since 1968 in the Akron School System and also substituted in the Shelby City Schools. During WWII she was employed at Firestone, where she was a "Rosie the Riveter", and later worked for 14 years at Shelby Business Forms. She became a STNA, (state tested nurses assistant), and was employed at Crestwood Care Center and Crestline Hospital. She was employed at Hi-Stat in Lexington, retiring when she was 89 years old.
Lucille was a member of the Shelby Missionary and Alliance Church and currently attended the Hope Outreach Ministry. She was a huge fan of Elvis Presley, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family, especially her great grandson, Derek.
Survivors include her children, Pastor Marilyn (Steve) Roman of Canton, Linda Griffith of Ft. Myers, FL; and Randy (Erma) Reining of N. Ft. Myers, FL; ten grandchildren, Ray Cooper, Dawn (Ed) Strohm, Damon Griffith, Karen Shultz, Sgt. Joe Vanover, Mignon Long, Jackie MacDonald, Heather Stearns, and Sunshine Reining; one great grandson, Derek Strohm (finance Melissa Orum), nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friend Bob Kuhn.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Reining Sr.; second husband, Ralph J. Johnson; son, Robert Reining Jr.; step daughter, Dixie Greco of Phoenix, AZ; great grandson, Aaron Sutherland; three brothers, Col. Lee J. Humphrey, Charles Humphrey and Eugene Humphrey; and one sister, Wilma Bertka; granddaughter, Julie Sutherland.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lucille's devoted granddaughter Dawn Strohm, her caregiver over the years and during her illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory. Pastor Marilyn Roman will officiate with interment in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
