Martha Louise Akers

Martha Louise Akers, age 85, resident of Shelby died Monday August 24, 2015 in Crestwood Care Center. 

Born April 30, 1930 in Plymouth, Ohio to George B. and Mildred G. (Jordan) Eby she was a resident of Plymouth for many years moving to Shelby in 1960. A 1948 graduate of Plymouth High School she had been employed with the National Ring and Leather Co., Ballanoff Metal Products and was employed as a LPN with Shelby Memorial Hospital from 1974-1993. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star # 153 Ritzpah Chapter. Martha enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting.  She was a collector of tea pots and salt dips and would frequent flea markets. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and she cherished their visits.

Surviving are two daughters Nancy (John) Nickel of Freemont, Ohio  Bonnita (Jay) Huss of Shelby; one son Byron A. Akers of Plymouth; grandchildren Kevin A. Snyder, Eric A. Huss, Hilary J. Wilkins, Stephanie A. Tiell, Melanie A. Wagner and John Christopher Nickel; great grandchildren Xander and Vance Wilkins, Ashley and Steven Tiell, Dylan, Jake and Jax Nickel, Lilian Huss and Makai and Lexus Lopez and Ava and Madison Wagner; nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Walter E. Akers, one brother Daniel E. Eby, one sister Donna J. Hoffman and daughter-in-law Sharon Waddles Akers.  

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday August 28, 2015 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Pastor Russel Yoak of the First Lutheran Church will officiate with interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Plymouth.  Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM where Eastern Star services will be held at 7:00 PM.
