Richard A. Foltz, age 95, resident of Shelby died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Home in Ashland
Born December 27, 1921 in Shelby to John Lee and Blanche (Gundrum) Foltz, he had been a lifelong resident of Shelby. Richard attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH, and was a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a navigator on a B-17 flying fortress bomber.
Richard was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Shelby, where he taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He was an active member in the Mansfield Symphony Chorus. He also enjoyed participating in the Blackfork Players, Town Roasts in Mansfield and the Choral Society. Richard enjoyed music, gardening for food and beautiful roses that he gave to his wife daily in the summer. He restored organs, made dulcimers which he played in the Mansfield area. And he was an avid reader.
Survivors include his son Ron Foltz, Lexington, OH, wife Nancy; daughter, Diane Dabney, Shelby, OH; grandchildren, Ryan Foltz, Sheffield Lake, OH, wife Phoebe Nelson, Shawn Foltz, Menai Bridge, UK, wife Anouschka, Evan Foltz, Akron, OH, Keith Dabney, Findlay, OH, Jennifer Williams, Galion, OH, husband Christopher, Justin Dabney, Shelby, OH, wife Kristina, Katherine Clapp, Shelby, OH, husband Jon, David Dabney, Kamm's Corner, Cleveland, life partner Anna Semple; great-grandchildren, Sanya Mae Foltz, Jamie Allen Foltz, Madelyn Dabney, Wyatt Williams, Natalie Dabney, Wesley Williams, Kaylee Dabney, and Lillian Clapp.
In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Katherine Jane (Stewart) Foltz.
Funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, OH.
Friends may call Friday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
