Richard L Spangler

Richard L. "Dick" Spangler age 81, died Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. 

Born March 25, 1935 in Shelby, to Ambrose and Dolly (Ward) Spangler he had been a lifelong Shelby resident. 

Dick and his brothers operated the Sohio Filling Station in Shelby and was a volunteer fireman with the Shelby Fire Department. He also was employed as a salesman with Mansfield Hardware & Supply Co.

He was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

A train enthusiast. He had collected and helped repair many model trains and was instrumental in starting the Shelby Model Train Club. Dick had traveled to West Virginia to take rides on the Cass Railroad as well. He enjoyed boating at Lake Erie and most of all spending time with his family during get-togethers, especially on Sunday picnics with his daughter and wife.

Dick is survived by his wife Joann (Gutshall) Spangler, whom he wed May 26, 1962, one daughter Robin Diane Spangler of Shelby; three sisters, Mary Rose Will, Elinor Kelly, and Shirley Cornell all of Shelby; numerous nieces nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five siblings, Donna Spangler, Harold Spangler, Dean Spangler, Doris Pfahler and Joyce Russell.

A funeral mass will be held 10:30 Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
