Robert "Bob" Heifner

January 2, 1930 ~ January 15, 2018 (age 88) 88 Years Old

 

 

Robert E. "Bob" Heifner, age 88, resident of Shelby died Monday, January 15, 2018 after a brief illness in Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  

He was born January 2, 1930 in Ashland, Ohio to Elmer and Ruth (Heifner) Lance and was adopted and raised by his maternal grandparents John and Dessie (Burns) Heifner. Bob had been a Shelby resident since 1950. He was a 1948 graduate of Shiloh High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.  Bob had been employed for 43 years with Shelby Business Forms retiring in 1993. He then took employment with the Shelby Daily Globe where he was still actively working. 

He was a very active member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby where he had served as head of the Worship Committee, and was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, usher, and served on numerous committees with over 60 years of service. He was a past recipient of the Jesse Rath award along with his wife Alice. He was the assistant scout master with the Boy Scout Troop #403. During local parades Bob had driven the lead truck for Denise's Twirlettes. He also coached his son’s Little League and granddaughter’s softball teams. He enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities as well as the Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Steelers and, especially the Cleveland Indians. 

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Alice (Seaman) Heifner whom he wed October 29, 1950; his children Denise (Andy) Thompson of Shelby, Michael "Mike" (Laurie) Heifner of Marysville and Danette (Phil) Mueller of Shelby; grandchildren Brittany (Aaron) Brill of Grove City, Brett (Helen) Thompson of Powell, Jason (Alexis) Rice of Mansfield, Robert “Rob” Heifner of Hilliard, Hannah and Sam Heifner both of Marysville; great-grandchildren Keagan and Evelyn Brill, nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Elmer (Isabelle) Lance, and Ruth (Roy) Dershimer, adoptive parents John and Dessie Heifner, brother Paul Heifner, special aunt Dorothy Williams, and son-in-law Robert "Bob" Rice.

Friends may call at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, January 22, 2018. A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday. Reverend Russel Yoak will officiate with interment held in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church at 33 Broadway St. Shelby, Ohio 44875 toward the purchase of devices for church members with hearing impairments.
