Ruth E. Hammonds, age 73, resident of Shelby, died Friday May 29, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 24, 1941 to Thomas Joseph and Ester (Shuman) Garrett she had been a Shelby resident since 1983.
Ruth had worked at Hamilton Standard as a press operator. She was a member of the Shelby VFW Ladies Auxiliary and served as past president of the Shelby Amvets Post #13.
She enjoyed reading, flowers and gardening, wind chimes, and animals. Most of all Ruth loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Albert M. Hammonds, whom she married September 19, 1965; her children, Harold (Bonnie) Parsons of Galion, Rhonda (Richard) Glower of Tiro, Ray (Kim) Parsons of Mansfield and Scott Parsons of Atlanta, GA; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; five sisters, Polly Butler of Marysville, Olive Carrel of Barnesville, Edna (Sam) Barr of Carrollton, Mary Whitacre and Jo (Kenny) Warner, both of Mt. Victory; one brother, Jimmy (Karen) Garrett of Lafferty, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Junie Shannon and Ethel Garrett and one brother, Tommy Garrett.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby with Pastor Jay Horn officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
