Shirley E. Bloom

Shirley Bloom, age 92, of Shelby passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on September 9, 1925 in Shelby to L. Leland and Vera Belle (Reynolds) Hopkins. 

Shirley was a charter member of the Beta Mu Chapter of the Lambda Chi Omega Sorority, the Brush and Palette Club and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years. She enjoyed oil painting landscapes, covered bridges, light houses and had been a very talented hooked rug maker. She had taught rug hooking classes in her home for many years.   

She is survived by her husband Maurice Bloom, whom she wed 75 years ago on October 31, 1942; four children: Sherry (Fred) Bloom Roth of Pittsburgh, PA, John (Connie) Bloom of Shelby, Linda (Mel) Todd of Cambridge, OH and Nancy Lawrence of Shelby; four grandchildren: Jay Bloom of Shelby, Jeremy Bloom of Carlisle, IL, Brandon Lawrence of Delaware, OH and Susan Roth of Pittsburgh, PA; four great grandchildren: Donovan and Jaxon Bloom, Cailen and Grayson Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings Lucy Spiegel, Eileen Baker, Gerald "Bud" Hopkins and Gayle Hopkins.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home 11:00 AM Monday. Reverend James Robinson from the First United Church of Christ will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
