Virginia R. Swanger

Virginia R. Swanger,  94, resident of Shelby, died Sunday morning September 6, 2015, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. 

Born April 6, 1921, in Shelby to Joe and Emma(Gosser) Laubie, she had been a lifelong Shelby resident.  A 1939 graduate of Shelby High School, she had been employed with Shelby Salesbook for twenty-two years retiring in 1983. 
She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, a faithful member of Curves in Shelby and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She had served as a Ward Two Shelby City Councilman for seven years. Ginny loved to play cards and enjoyed walking. 

Survivors include three daughters Penny (Dennis) Lepp of Bucyrus, Teena Barber of Shelby and Jill (Tim Hughes) Rudd of Solon; ten grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; her son-in-law Jim Hughes of Upper Sandusky and other relatives.

In addition to her parents she was preceeded in death by her husband Frank Swanger, her daughter Jean Ann Hughes; five brothers Joseph, Paul, Bernard, Robert and Charles Laubie; one sister Florence Fewell.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday September 10, 2015, from Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Fr. James Sanford will officate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery.  Friends may call Wednesday at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, and the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 PM.  Memorial expressions may be made to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School.
