|Ruth K. Pruitt, age 93, resident of Smiley Gardens, Shelby and most recently of Crestwood Care Center died Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Holy Cross Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Born September 22, 1916 in Arcadia, Ohio to Henry and Ethel (Class) Groth, she was a resident of Shelby since the late 1960's. A 1935 graduate of Arcadia High School, she worked for JC Penney for many years in both Mansfield and Findlay, and at Patterson's Department Store, from which she retired.
Ruth was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Shelby. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting afghans, decorating her home and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her five children, Connie (Ron) Strine of Shelby, William Pruitt of Mansfield, Brenda Amato of Ft. Lauderdale, John (Karen) Pruitt of Shelby and Gene (Dawn) Pruitt of Mansfield; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Pruitt in 1969; four brothers, Charlie, Stanley, John, and Paul Groth; one sister, Naomi Stough; a granddaughter, Lisa Amato; great-grandson, Timothy Bevelhymer; and a son-in-law, Joseph "Joey" Amato.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 6, 2010 in Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, Ohio with Reverend Ivan Beatty officiating. Calling hours will not be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Nazarene, 169 Mansfield Ave., Shelby, OH 44875 or to the charity of one's choice. Barkdull Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
