Barbara Jean Lash, age 82, resident of Shelby died Saturday May 11, 2019 in Elmcroft of Ontario.
Born June 27, 1936 in Keokuk, Iowa to John R. and Kathryn M. (Kelly) Kay she graduated from Keokuk High School in 1955. A Shelby resident since 1961, she was a cake decorator for Cornell's IGA for 15 years and was the creator of Paul's ice-cream cakes making cakes for many years.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, she was a lifelong member of the Beta Sigma Phi and Xi Beta Sigma sororities. Barb was a girl scout and boy scout leader and a Shelby Memorial Hospital volunteer for over 20 years. Alongside her cake decorating, she enjoyed quilting, and making beaded jewelry. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and special friend, Bill.
Survivors include her children, Ben (Cindy) Lash of Shelby, Lori (Mark) Amicone of Shelby, Stuart Lash of Columbus, and Pam (Mark) Hess of Shelby; twelve grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Gerald (Barbara) Kay of Cocoa, FL, and Rev. Larry (Ava) Kay of Marceline, Missouri; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty St. Clair, her brother John Kay, her sister-in-law Barbara Kay and niece Kathryn George.
Friends may call Wednesday May 15, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby. Funeral services will then begin at 5:00 PM Wednesday with Pastor Garland Harvey, JR. officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 18 South Gamble St., Shelby, Ohio 44875.
