Ben F. Johnson, age 101, resident of Shelby died Saturday, May 26, 2018 in his home.
Born May 9, 1917 in Ordinary, Ky. to Lee and Eliza (Brown) Johnson he had been a Shelby area resident since 1950. He had farmed and was employed as a painter for 30 years working for various area contractors. Mr. Johnson was self-employed for the last ten years before his retirement. He enjoyed gardening and home repair.
Survivors include his two sons and daughter-in-law, Franklin Lee Johnson; and Wayne and Judy Johnson of Geneva, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann and Robert McLaughlin of Weaverville, NC and Marlene and Kenny Crabtree of Ashland, OH; six grandchildren, Christopher and Jeff McLaughlin, Ben and Scott Johnson, Rebecca Kitchen and Jonathan Figley; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife F. LaVonne Johnson in 2008; three brothers, Sidney A.,Wilbur, and Willis Johnson; four sisters, Beulah Thurman Webb, Nola Roberts, Eula Lee Wheeler and Lola Howard.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Avita Ontario Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital and the Ohio Health Hospice for all their kindness and care given to Ben over the past month.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, Friday June 1, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Reverend James Robinson will officiate funeral services at the funeral home following the calling hours at 1:00 PM. Paul Detillion will officiate the committal service with interment held in Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice at 335 Glessner Ave, Mansfield, OH 44903.
