Daniel Henry Melick, Jr. age 82 died Monday, July 1, 2019 at Medina Meadows Rehab and Nursing Center, Medina, Ohio.
Born on August 31, 1936 in Shelby to Daniel and Alta (Jeffery) Melick, Sr., he was a Shelby resident for 57 years, a Willard resident for 19 years, and a Medina resident for the past six years. Daniel was a Veteran of the Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as the Vice President of the former Citizens Bank of Shelby and he also worked and retired from the Financial Division of the Fetzer Manufacturing Company of Plymouth. He was a member of the Plymouth Lions, the American Legion in Medina, the Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelby, and he was a 60 year member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge; No. 350 F & A.M.
Daniel enjoyed coaching little league and was a referee for high school basketball and football games for 25 years. He loved fishing, golfing and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and the Indians.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Gates) Melick whom he wed on October 12, 1958; daughters, Jennifer (Tom) Richmond of Daphne, Alabama, Kate (Tommy) Shelton of Montgomery, Texas; son Jeff (Kathy) Melick of Medina Ohio; grandsons, Patrick (Carey), Greg (Raven), and Alex (Liz) Richmond, Alex, Jack, and Sam Young, and Daniel and Mitchell Melick; three great grandchildren, Philip, Julia and Zoe Richmond and one on the way, Caroline, in July, 2019; brother, David (Nancy) Melick of Shelby; sister, Daphne (Keith) Clark of Shelby, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Dan and Alta Melick, Sr, and his sister Deborah Ball.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory. Majors Tom and Jenny Richmond will officiate with internment at Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
