Duane E Emerson

Duane E. Emerson, age 81, of Shelby died Wednesday June 20, 2018 at Ohio Health Mansfield. 

Born June 16, 1937 in Shelby to Earald and Thelma (Randall) Emerson, he had been a 1955 graduate of Shelby High School. A 1959 graduate of Ohio University, Duane married his high school sweetheart and started his career at Price Waterhouse in New York.  He had lived in many places, including Toledo, Muncie and Singapore. After his retirement from the Ball Corporation in 1997, Duane had lived in Arkansas and Florida, returning to Shelby after his wife's passing in 2005.

A member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Duane was a runner and enjoyed athletics.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed autobiographies and historical non-fiction and was a member of the "400" Club at Ted & Ali's on Thursday mornings for breakfast.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Bettinger) Emerson of Cold Water, Michigan; two sons, Thomas (Yvette) Emerson of Wichita, Kansas, Michael (Julia) Emerson of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Kathryn Emerson of Shelby, Mary Ann Emerson of Asheville, NC; seven grandsons Joseph, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Samuel, Sean, Maximino & Thomas; 5 step-children and 14 step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Suzanne (Bourgeois) Emerson and sister Dorothy Bilsing.

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, June 24, 2018. A Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Father Chris Mileski will officiate and interment will be held in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery.
