Elizabeth J. "Betty" Martinez, age 98, of Shelby died Tuesday evening March 13, 2018 at Crestwood Care Center.
Born November 3, 1919 in Shelby to Harry and Anna (Schill) Reinken she had been a lifelong Shelby resident. A 1937 graduate of Shelby High School, she received her degree in registered nursing in 1942 from the St. John's School of Nursing in Cleveland.
Betty was employed as an RN with Dr. Kingsboro's private practice, Ohio Steel Tube, Crestline Hospital and retired from Heritage Care Center in 1991. She was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, the Daughter's of Isabella, the Altar and Rosary Society and was a volunteer with North Central Ohio Hospice.
An avid Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, she enjoyed reading, painting, baking, and attending aquanastics.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Toni and Bill Anspach of Shelby; and Susan and Jim Radovic of Jupiter, FL; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dave and Diane Martinez of Shelby and Rick Martinez of Bucyrus; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Martinez in 2000 and six sisters, Dorothy McFarland, Mary Sizer, Martha Harris, Marjory Weiland, Virginia Shade, and Justine Dorf.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday March 19, 2018 at 10:30 AM from the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby on Monday from 9:30-10:30 AM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
