Joe L. Lancaster age 73, resident of Galion, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at Ohio Health Hospital in Mansfield.
Born April 2, 1944 in Galion, Ohio to Elga and Geraldine (Brown) Lancaster he had been a Galion resident for the majority of his life. A 1962 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School, Joe had worked in purchasing for 30 years for North Electric, ITT Power System, Peco II, and retired from Geyer's Market.
He was a member of the Galion Boosters Club, Wilma Crall Pride, BPOE Lodge 1191, American Legion Post 243, Galion Jaycees as well as the Crestline Lions Club. Joe was the 6th grade basketball coach at Galion East Elementary, Wilma Crall for many years. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching his favorite teams; The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and following along with the Galion High School Sports.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Dennis) Ruth of Galion, two sons, Mike (Amy) Lancaster of Shelby, and Matt (Jennifer) Lancaster of Las Vegas Nevada; six grandchildren, Dalton and Dylan Ruth, Emme and Elle Kaiser, Owen and Kinsey Lancaster; sister, Sally Parson of Enon, OH; brother, Mike (Marlene) Lancaster of Mt. Gilead; sister-in-law, Carol Lancaster of Enon, OH, brother-in-law, Kenny Baird of Muskogee, OK, special friends, Sharron Palmer of Columbus and Mary Nungusser of Hilliard; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann (Martin) Lancaster in May of 1989; two sisters, Shirley (Paul) Long and Joan Baird; three brothers, Jerry Lancaster, Robert Lancaster and Jack (Joyce) Lancaster.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Galion. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In honor of Joe the family asks that everyone wear their Ohio State apparel.
