Kenneth L. Gwirtz

Kenneth L. Gwirtz age 70, resident of Shelby died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in the Willows at Willard Nursing home.

Born October 29, 1946 in Shelby to Henry and Marcella (Kaple) Gwirtz, he had been a life long resident. A 1964 graduate of Shelby High School, Kenneth was a farmer and had worked at PPG in Crestline before retiring after over 40 years of employment.  

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, F.O.E Aerie Post 859 in Crestline for 35 years, and the STATS sports bar in Crestline.

Ken was an avid Drag Racer, he had raced locally and at multiple out of state races.  He had owned several Harley Davidson's and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the country while riding with his friends.  He enjoyed spending time at Lake Erie. Above all he cherished the time spent with his family and loved ones.

He is survived by his sister Linda (Roger) Furney of Shelby, five nieces and nephews Brenda (Mike) Culpepper of Vermillion, Grant Furney of Oak Harbor, Amanda (John) Zeigler of Bucyrus, Tina (Jerry) Eldrich of Shelby, Mandy (Sean) Patterson of Cleveland; seven great-nieces and great-nephews, Stormy Furney, Katana Furney, Evelyn Furney, Jax Zeigler, Michael Culpepper Jr., Chelsea Eldrich, and Brandon Eldrich.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Larry Gwirtz.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Deacon Steve Keller will officiate.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
