Marie F Steele

Marie F. Steele, age 88 resident of Shelby, died Wednesday evening, October 25, 2017 at Elmcroft of Ontario. 

Born August 15, 1929 in Lorain, Ohio to Joseph and Frances (Provenza) DeVito, she has been a Shelby resident for the majority of her life. Marie had retired from the Shelby City Schools as a secretary in 1990. A member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Alter Rosary Society, Marie had volunteered at the Shelby Help Line for many years answering the "FISH" phone. She had also been involved in Civitan and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1952.

Marie was a social butterfly, she loved to talk with friends and family members. She enjoyed baking and delivering cookies to her family, friends and local businesses and attending Shelby Whippet sporting events.

Marie is survived by her three sons, Richard (Jill) Steele of Bellville, Ken (Maureen) Steele of San Francisco, CA, Mark Steele of New York City; one daughter Marlene (Chris) Adkins of Shelby; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Eric) Decker of Oregon, OH, Emily (Pat) Robinson of North Olmstead, Spencer and Chase Steele, Adam Steele and Tyson Adkins, all at home; four great grandchildren, Max Keggerize, Theo Decker, Graham and Adelyn Robinson; two sister-in-law's Gaylene DeVito and Susan (Tub) Shell both of Shelby; special friends Gloria & Larry Ault and Jan Dick, all of Shelby; as well numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Archie Steele Jr., in 2002, three brothers Tony (Joanne) DeVito, Salvatore DeVito, John DeVito, one sister Pauline Gurney, grandson Evan Steele, Niece Louise DeVito, Nephews John Gurney and nephew-in-law Robert Hoak.

Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Pastor Paul Lintern and Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 29 West St, Shelby, OH 44875 or the Class of '47 Scholarship Fund at 142 N Gamble St, Shelby, OH 44875 with checks made out to The Shelby Foundation, memo Class of '47.
