Nathaniel "Nate" Rhodes, Jr.

March 5, 1954 ~ March 29, 2019 (age 65)

Nathaniel "Nate" Rhodes, Jr., age 65, Mansfield, Ohio went home to be with The Lord after a battle with cancer.

Born March 5, 1954 in Mansfield, Ohio to Nathaniel and Hazel (Stoops) Rhodes, he lived in Crestline, Galion, and Mansfield area the majority of his adult life. He was a student at Madison and Shelby City Schools, attended Mansfield Business College and had previously worked in the restaurant industry. 

Nate was a proud, private first class in the United States Marine Corp and honorably discharged in 1975. He took pride in the time he spent serving our Country, and served as a Small Arms Proof Director and Rifleman.

He loved his family, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to flea markets. Nate was a pool shark, a musician, a disc jockey and master of ceremonies. He was passionate about his work, and performed several wedding receptions, school dances as well as many other venues. He was also the at the Boathouse DJ in Put-In-Bay for several years. 

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Leanna (Martin) Rhodes; four children, Lynn (Randy) Lampson, of Maryland, Jeremy N. Rhodes of Mansfield, OH, Misty Flannery of Mansfield, OH, and Victoria Rhodes of Parma, OH; 10 loving grandchildren, Cole, Alexis, Carissa, Jaelin, Hunter, Gauge, Lindsey, Sydney, Jacob and Sophie; his father, Nathaniel Rhodes, Sr. of SC; brothers, Clifford Ray Rhodes of SC, Gregory Rhodes of Shelby, OH, Timothy Rhodes of Canada; and sister Joy Burger of Crestline, OH; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Rhodes in 2011 and his beloved dog, Roscoe in 2017.

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 12:00 PM. Reverend Danny Green will officiate with burial held in Mansfield Memorial Park. Military Honors will be provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
