Rodney Allen Crace, age 79, resident of Tiro passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born August 18th 1939 to Thurman and Wanda Crace. He married his high school sweetheart and served in the Navy. He came home and worked at the Crawford County Highway department where he retired as the highway superintendent. During those years, he served as Mayor of Tiro and was also on the Tiro-Auburn Volunteer Fire Department where he acted as Fire Chief for many years. He was a member of the Crouse Memorial Lutheran Church and also a member of the Crestline Eagles.
He enjoyed sports. He followed his children and granddaughters many athletic pursuits at Buckeye Central and at college. He also attended many Buckeye Central sporting events. He was a member of the Buckeye Central ‘Chain Gang’ for 40 years. He cheered for The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Cavs, Browns, and Indians, when they gave him a reason to cheer. He took many fishing trips to Canada with friends and was a hunter for many years. He enjoyed his many motorcycles and the cross country trips he got to take. He also loved going to the casino to try his luck at the slots.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy, son Jeff (Jessica) Crace, daughter Lisa (Tim) Marcum, cherished granddaughters, Trenna Marcum and Samantha Marcum, sister Bert Clark and half brother Jerry Crace.
In addition to his parents Rodney was preceded in death by his son Jim Crace, sister Bonnie Pauley, parents Thurman and Wanda Crace and in-laws Ruth and Emmett Flegm.
Friends may call at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM. SAM Scott Fishpaw will officiate a graveside service on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM with interment in Tiro Oakland Cemetery.
