Ronald G. Strine age 80, resident of Shelby passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Ohio Health Hospital in Shelby.
Born August 9, 1936 in Massillon, Ohio to Chester and Fredra (Corbett) Strine, he had been a Shelby resident since 1958.
A 1954 graduate of Washington High School in Massillon, he received his Bachelor's degree from Wittenberg University in 1958 and his Master's in Education in 1962. Mr. Strine was employed as a teacher,the offensive coordinator football coach and administrator with the Shelby City Schools. From 1958 to 1994 he coached the Shelby Whippet varsity football team winning 12 NOL Championships. He had also coached basketball and track. He served as assistant principal at the Shelby Sr. High School for 14 years and taught O.W.E. for 18 years retiring in 1994. Mr. Strine was nominated and inducted into the Shelby High School Hall of Distinction in 2014.
He was a member of Ohio Football Coach Association, Richland County Football Coach Association, the National Football Coach Association, Shelby Moose Lodge #422, Knights of Columbus, Alpha Tau Omega, as well as the Notre Dame Football Club of Mansfield.
Ron enjoyed fishing, boating on Lake Erie, traveling, wintering in Orange Beach, AL, and was an avid Notre Dame football fan.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Strine, whom he wed October 11, 1958; his children, Ron (Anne) Strine of Glen Allen, Virginia, Annette (Roger) Bevelhymer of Shelby and Donnie (Mary) Strine of Shelby; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Lisette Fisher, sister, Vivian Buckland and grandson, Timothy Bevelhymer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, in Shelby. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday. A prayer service will be held following at 8:00PM
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Shelby Athletic Boosters or the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
