Shirley Gwirtz age 85, resident of Shelby died Monday, April 30, 2018 at Ohio Health Hospital in Shelby.
Born February 3, 1933 in Brookings, South Dakota to Einar and Ellen (Petersson) Birath, she had been a Shelby resident since 1953. A 1951 Plymouth High School graduate, she had formally been employed with the Shelby Sales Book.
Shirley was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre. She had also enjoyed word and jigsaw puzzles, the Cleveland Browns and most of all spending time with her family at her cabin at Lake Erie.
She is survived by son, Mike (Shelly) Gwirtz of O'Neals, CA; daughter, Terri (Roger) Manns of Shelby and son, Ken (Sue) Gwirtz of North Lima; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and 1 on the way; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Gwirtz in 2013; sister Eivor Magistad and brother Harry Birath.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:30. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 10:30AM. Father Chris Mileski will officiate with interment held at a later date.
