William F. Thompson, age 89, resident of Shelby died Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Elmcroft of Ontario.
Born October 1, 1929 in Shelby to Joseph S. and Francis E. M. (Burns) Thompson he had been a lifelong Shelby resident. A 1947 graduate of Shelby High School he had served in Korea with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed with the Autocall Co. and then attained the position as president with Shelby Building and Loan. Bill had served as the Mayor for the City of Shelby for two terms from 1988 to 1992.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was a 65 year member of the Shelby Lodge # F & AM 350 and Shelby Chapter #178 RAM and the Aladan Shrine. Bill was a life member of the American Legion Post #326 and the VFW Post 291. He was a past president of both the Shelby YMCA and Shelby Chamber of Commerce, was a charter member of the Shelby Kiwanis and the Mcdonalds Division Association.
Bill is survived by one daughter Rebecca (Kenneth) Papay of Shelby; two sons John (Tina) Thompson and Andrew (Denise) Thompson all of Shelby; grandchildren Scott (Malina) Papay, Nicolle Papay, Chris Thompson, Jessica Thompson, Roger (Rachel) Hawkins, Brandon (Amber) Hawkins, Brittany (Aaron) Brill, Brett (Helen) Thompson; great grandchildren Brach Beamer-Papay, Keagan and Evelyn Brill, Lydia and Emily Hawkins and twins Cali and Easton Hawkins, Collyns Papay, Hayden Beair, Miley Treese, Jaymie and Jace Converse; other relatives; special friends and care giver Marianne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie A. Thompson; three brothers Robert, James and Jack Thompson and three sisters Thelma Hall, Marge Wrightsman and Bette Guenther.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Friday, March 8, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Masonic service being performed at 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 11:00 AM Saturday. Chaplin Randy Barlow will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. An additional calling hour will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
