William Sexton

William "Hoppy" B. Sexton, age 74, of Shelby died Saturday morning August 4, 2018 surrounded by loving family following a courageous 3 1/2 year battle with cancer.

Born November 3, 1943 in Richlands, VA to Commodore Perry & Melvina (Carnes) Sexton, he has been a Richland County resident since 1945. A graduate of Plymouth High School, Hoppy had worked at Sarca Mfg., the Salesbook, Daily Globe and Mansfield News Journal. He was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where he was very active with CCD, Lector and calling bingo. Hoppy was also a member of the Toastmasters and the Promise Keepers and he loved reading, Sci-Fi, astronomy, math, science, computer programming and visiting the lighthouse in Marblehead and Cedar Point with his wife. Hoppy had a corny sense of humor and loved to laugh, especially at puns he would make up.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Louise (Robertson) Sexton, whom he married August 28, 1965; his three children, Stephanie Sexton of Mansfield, Stephen (Tasha) Sexton of Lawrenceburg, TN and Scott (Janel) Sexton of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Sierra, Zachary, Haley, Dustin and Cannon; his siblings, Chelsea Sexton, Marie Marcum, Ruth Gaston, Ellis Dean Hicks and David Hicks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings, Walter, Gracie, Charles, Dennis, Boyd, Commodore Perry "CP" Jr. and Raymond.

Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Father Chris Mileski will officiate.
