William E."Beardy" Viars, age 89, resident of Shelby died Wednesday October 24, 2018 in Crestwood Care Center.
Born February 19, 1929 in Soldier, KY to Taylor & Marie (Cundiff) Viars, he had been a Shelby resident the majority of his life. William served his country in the U.S. Army.
He was employed as a truck driver, driving for Branch Motor Express, Norwalk Trucking and Roadway Express and had achieved several safe driving awards. Beardy was a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F&AM, a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Shelby Chapter #178 and a member of the Shrine Club. He was an avid golfer, who attained three holes in one. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially spending time with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Eberly of Shelby and Sharon (Skip) White of Shiloh; five grandchildren, Jason (Cindy) Eberly, Nathan (Katie) Eberly, Casey Eberly, Shane (Caroline) White and Sabrina "Bean" (Steve) Heckathorne; nine great grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; two brothers, J.C. (Anita) Viars of Shelby and Vaughn Viars of Morehead, KY; two sisters, Madge McBroom of Bellevue and Phyllis Viars of Morehead; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores "Dody" (Lewis) Viars, infant son, Jerry Viars; two sisters, Mabel Viars and Joyce Kimmet and one brother, Kern Viars; step sister Wanda Knapp and sister-in-law Muriel Viars.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Pastor Dave Davenport will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM where Masonic services will be held at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby Help Line Ministries at 29 Walnut St, Shelby, OH 44875.
