Obituary

Ann Hemmerly Obituary Ann Marie Hemmerly, age 92, of Shelby died peacefully Saturday January 16, 2021 at Elmcroft Assisted Living Center where she has been a resident with her loving family by her side. Ann was born February 19, 1928 in Ashland, Ohio and was the daughter of George and Clara (Spangler) Heckman. Anns family moved to Shelby when she was 13 and at that time, she became active as a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she remained an active member for the last 78 years. She retired from The Salesbook after 29 years in the Shipping office. Anns passions included her Church where she was a member in the Womens Altar and Rosary Society for which she was a past President and was on the Executive Board as Vice President and Secretary, and was voted Woman of the Year more than once. She was also Co-Chair of the bi-annual noodle making fund raiser for 18 years. She served as Co-Chair for the bi-annual Church bake and rummage sales, helped clean the Church, worked in the Bingo kitchen and made countless pies, cakes, cookies, and her favorite- banana cream pies for the Christmas Bazaar and many other Parish events and for her family. While giving her heart and time to the Church and her family, Ann also delivered for Meals-on-Wheels for over 25 years, served many Fish dinners at the Shelby Senior Center, and baked birthday cakes and cookies for the clients at Abraxas. In addition to staying busy with Church activities and Social events, Ann loved traveling and visited all 50 US states and several international countries - all while raising her seven children and tending to her home and large flower beds. Somehow, she even found time to play cards with her friends, read novels, knitted sweaters and scarves for her family, and attended monthly birthday club events. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Kenneth Hemmerly, six of her seven children, Michael (Elizabeth) Hemmerly of Bellingham WA, Jackie (Don) Shaffer of Ontario OH, Keith Hemmerly of Everette, WA, Daneen Porter of Shelby, Brian Hemmerly and Martha Fort of Mansfield, OH, and Keni Marie (Rodney) Morgan of Bucyrus OH, ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
