Bonnie Elkins Obituary Bonnie L. Elkins age 78, resident of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Mansfield Memorial Homes Nursing Facility. Born September 16, 1946 in Ashland, KY, she was the daughter of Oscar Dowdy and Lula 'Frances' (Burton) Carroll. A devout Christian, she attended the first Wesleyan Church in Mansfield for many years and enjoyed holding bible studies at her home for the neighborhood kids. Bonnie had a huge heart and never met a stranger. She would always be the first to lend a helping hand anyone in need. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed gardening, canning and preparing meals for her family. A woman of many talents, she was often found dancing, singing and writing her own songs. Most of all her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Elkins, local artist, of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Danielle (Charlie) Stinehour of Lucas, Tia Sipe of Ontario and Paradise Hilty of Youngstown; seven great grandchildren, McKenzie (Zeke), Jaden, Charlize, Nick, Torey, Remi and Ellie; one great great granddaughter Aurora; son-in-law Mark Fitzpatrick of Mansfield; two sisters, Judy (David) Mock of Crestline and Brenda (Richard) Barton of Little Hocking, Ohio; two brothers, Carl Dowdy of Mansfield and Jake 'Leroy' Dowdy of Niles, OH; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Fred Edward Elkins in 2013, her daughter Carla Johnson; stepfather Willard Carroll; one sister Patsy Dowdy; and two sisters-in-law Francine and Della Dowdy. Friends may visit the family at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow from the funeral home at 1:00 PM. Reverend Nathan McBeth will officiate with interment held at the Springmill Cemetery in Mansfield.
