Derlin Kegley Obituary Derlin Kegley, age 83, of Shelby, Ohio, passed away peacefully, July 14, 2024, at Ohio Health Mansfield, surrounded by his family.
Derlin was born on August 24, 1940, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to Frank Kegley and Vada Marie (Mabry) Fieffer. He lived in Sandy Hook and attended Sandy Hook Schools for the duration of his childhood, before moving north to Ohio to pursue a prospective job with one of the local steel mills as a young man. Upon his arrival to Ohio in the late 1950's, Derlin found work with AK Steel, located in Mansfield. Derlin loved his job and he was proud of his work. He worked dutifully and diligently for 37.5 years before his retirement in 1995.
Derlin would be best described, by those that knew him well, as a workaholic that took great pride in his work, but also as a homebody. When Derlin wasn't hard at work, he could be found at home with his family. Family was the most important aspect of Derlin's life. In particular, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a frequent visitor of his local McDonalds, where he would routinely meet with his breakfast club friends. This was often a highlight of Derlin's day, during his retirement years. He enjoyed drinking a cup of coffee and spending time with his friends, swapping news and stories.
Derlin is survived by his loving wife, Pauline (Adkins) Kegley, whom he wed on April 10, 1964; his daughters, Cheryl (Wayne) Kissel of Shelby; Terri (Jeff) Ramsey of Bellville, OH; Connie (John) Grosscup of Ashland, OH; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Drenda Parsons of New Carlisle, Indiana; and Brenda (Eugene) Krosschell of Morris, Minnesota; and a special friend that Derlin loved, like he was his own son, Buddy (Karen) Baker, of Mansfield, OH.
In addition to his parents, Derlin was preceded in death by his brothers, Garlan (Judy) Fraley; and Roscoe (Marcy) Kegley.
