Donna J. Spangler, age 89, former Shelby resident died Monday, October 25, 2010 at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice House in Lecanto, Florida.
Born August 16, 1921 in Shelby to Ambrose and Dolly (Ward) Spangler she was a 1939 graduate of Shelby High School. Donna worked at the Shelby Memorial Hospital and Autocall before moving to Florida in 1957. She was employed for 21 years with the State License Bureau in Florida retiring in 1983.
A member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Clearwater, Florida, she was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing, and collecting cardinals. Donna loved to travel, traveling extensively throughout the United States and Nova Scotia and especially enjoyed the Grand Tetons. Donna was very fond of her nieces and nephews and enjoyed their visits.
Survivors include her siblings, Joyce (John) Russell, Mary Rose Will, Richard (Joan) Spangler, Elinor (Richard) Kelly, and Shirley Cornell, all of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Lovell Spangler and Carolyn Spangler, both of Shelby; nieces, nephews, and her caregiver, Barbara Cogdill of Hernando, Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Dean Spangler, one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Paul Pfahler, her brother-in-law, Duane Will; one niece, Cynthia Sieben and two nephews, Tom Pfahler and Craig Dennis and good friend, Alice Gundrum.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Friday, October 29, 2010 from the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Nicholas Cunningham will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM where a scripture service will be conducted at 7:45 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
