Obituary

Ed Hensley Obituary Ed Stan Hensley, age 62, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 26, 2022, from an apparent cardiac arrest at his home in Shelby. Born October 1, 1959, in Williamson, West Virginia to Stanley Hensley Jr. and Ruth (Maynard) Hensley, he had been a Shelby resident for the majority of his life. A 1978 graduate of Shelby Senior High School, Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed with General Motors in production and retired in 2005 after 27 years of service. Ed was a member of the Huron Baseball and Softball Program (HBSP) for eight years and maintained the Huron baseball fields. He was passionate about coaching. Holding various hitting and pitching clinics. He was involved with Shelby High School baseball, and Crestview softball teams. Ed, also known as 'Speedy Gonzales' or 'Fast Eddie' grew up being known for his athletic ability, playing both Football and Baseball. An avid San Francisco 49er and The Ohio State Buckeyes football fan, he enjoyed his McDonalds coffee, and only Mcdonalds coffee. He loved spending time with his family, especially taking their yearly beach vacations. Ed was the best grandpa, and his pride and joy was his granddaughter, Chloe. He was responsible for taking her on all of her first roller coasters at their Cedar Point trips, even if he was not a fan of the rides. Survivors include his daughter, Amber Hensley-Rew and her mother Kim Claytor of Shelby; granddaughter, Chloe; siblings Cathy Hamilton of Shelby, Vicki (Earl) Strine of Shelby, NC, and Rhonda (Mark) Carey of Mansfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Doug Hamilton. Visitation will be held from the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory, Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home Monday, May 2, 2022, at 10:30 AM with Pastor Doug Tackett officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Chloe Rew in care of Amber Hensley-Rew.
