Elizabeth Crall Mawhinney Obituary Elizabeth A. Crall Mawhinney, age 81, resident of Dearborn, MI, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Royal Oaks Beaumont Hospital, surrounded by her loving friend Carol McAdams and the amazing hospital staff. Born July 11, 1940, in Shelby to George and Helen (Weaver) Crall, she had been a resident of Dearborn, Michigan for the last 20 years or more. A 1958 graduate of Shelby High School, Elizabeth was a very involved student. She was a drum majorette and also the queen of her class, was on the class executive committee, student council junior class officer, Tri-Hi-Y club member, and Biology club member. After high school, Betty began traveling and pursuing a professional career as a ballet dancer. Early on in her career, Betty danced professionally at the Chicago ballet as well as in productions in New York City. Her extensive experience in dance and theatre led her to teaching at the university level. More recently she taught dance and choreography at Butler University in Indiana and Wayne State University in Detroit. She would also volunteer her skills and knowledge to various groups associated with dance and theatre throughout the metro Detroit area, as well as committees related to the arts in the state of Michigan. Betty was a longtime member of Dearborn Congregational Church. She lived a full and happy life. Her impressive knowledge and abilities in dance and theatre made a big impression on many lives. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Thomas C. Mawhinney of Dearborn, MI; first cousins, Audrey Dotson of Shelby, and Jeanette Stidham of Hilton Head Island, SC; second cousins, Tim (Sonia) Terry of Shelby, Tom (Donna) Terry of Prescott, Arizona, Jake Stidham and Janice Stidham both of Hilton Head; her husband Tom's family that reside in Florida. She also leaves behind many cousins, extended family, and good friends in many states. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Julie Crall in 2018. Friends may visit the Barkdull Funeral Home Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 6:00 PM with Pastor Russel Yoak officiating. Private burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marvin Memorial Library.
