Eugene Bettac Obituary Eugene Paul Bettac, age 96, resident of Shelby, died after a brief illness Friday September 24, 2021 at OhioHealth Hospital Mansfield. He was born September 3, 1925 in Plymouth to Chester and Helen (Myers) Bettac. He was drafted during his senior year at Plymouth High School and awarded his diploma in 2006 for his years of service during World War II. Gene was a veteran of WWII serving as a corporal with the United States Marine Corps and fought in the battle that reclaimed the island of Guam in the Pacific theater. He was employed at Westinghouse in Mansfield retiring after 37 years of service. Gene was a member of Shelby VFW Post #291. He was raised in the Catholic Faith and in recent years it was comforting to him to affirm his faith in Jesus. Gene enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach and Gatlinburg, as well as visiting his wife's family in Kentucky. He always looked forward to attending family gatherings, playing the card game 'Rook' and following the Cleveland Indians. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor (Hall) Bettac; a son Paul (Laureen) Bettac of Bellville; two step-sons, Danny (LuAnn) Parrigan and Gary Parrigan, both of Shelby; grandchildren, Jessica (Ben) Solomon, Alyssa and Erica Bettac, Dan (Kristi) Parrigan, Jeremy (Nick Perrotta) Parrigan, and Kyle Parrigan; great-grandchildren Austin, Lauren Parrigan, and Ford Parrigan-Perrotta; brother, Joseph (Agnes) Bettac of Willard; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his parents Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Ted Bettac; three sisters, Patricia Elmlinger, Dolores Bettac, and Jeanette Compton.
