Granville Wade Brown, 90, of Shelby, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on July 22, 1935, in Clearfield, Kentucky, Granville was the son of the late Holly and Mattie (Wallace) Brown. He lived a life defined by faithfulness, hard work, quiet strength, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved.

Granville dedicated 34½ years of his life to working at the Tuby before retiring in 1996. His remarkable work ethic, however, began long before he entered the workforce. At just 12 years old, he helped provide for his family by plowing neighbors' fields with nothing more than a mule and an old plow, charging only 25 cents an hour. Though the work was difficult, Granville faced it with a joyful heart, often singing as he worked. His cheerful spirit earned the area the affectionate nickname "Happy Holler," a testament to the happiness he brought wherever he went. He was proud that his hard work helped support his family and gave his brother the opportunity to graduate from school.

The outdoors was where Granville felt most at home. Whether casting a line into the water before sunrise, sitting patiently in the woods during hunting season, or enjoying a round of golf with friends, he found peace in God's creation. He was known as an exceptional marksman, admired for his skill and patience. He also rarely missed the chance to cheer on his beloved Cleveland Indians, faithfully following the team through every season.

Later in life, Granville found great joy in sharing his faith through music. He was a proud bass singer with the Zion Hill Singers quartet, traveling throughout the area to sing at churches, funerals, and nursing homes. Whether offering comfort to grieving families, lifting spirits in worship, or bringing smiles to nursing home residents, Granville cherished every opportunity to share the gift of music. His deep, steady voice reflected the kindness and compassion he carried in his heart, and he found great fulfillment in using his talents to encourage and uplift others.

Farming wasn't simply what Granville did-it was part of who he was. He found great satisfaction in caring for his land and the animals entrusted to him. His greatest pride was raising White-Faced Hereford cattle, and there was rarely a day when he wasn't happiest with a pair of work boots on and something meaningful to do.

Of all the roles Granville filled throughout his life, none meant more to him than being a husband, father, grandfather, and patriarch. His family was the center of his world. He worked tirelessly-not for recognition, but to ensure those he loved always had what they needed. He was their protector, their provider, their steady hand, and their safe place. His children knew they could always depend on him, and they will forever remember his unwavering integrity, gentle wisdom, and unconditional love. Granville led not only by his words but by the example he set every day-a life of humility, sacrifice, honesty, and quiet strength.

The legacy Granville leaves behind is far greater than the work he accomplished or the years he lived. It lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the enduring love of a family forever grateful to have called him theirs. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his example and the love he gave so freely will continue to guide those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Luena Brown, whom he wed on February 14, 1955, his four children; Tamela Brown of FL, Kimberly (Tom) Sutter of OH, Jeffrey Brown of OH, and Brenda (Tim) Tuttle of OH, ten grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and his siblings; Darrell Brown of OH, and Bonnie Hildebrand of KY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Gwendolyn Reed and Lillian Bowman; brothers, Wavel, Linville, and Holly Brown Jr.; and sister-in-law, Pauline Brown.
