James "Jim" A. Haines, Jr., a devoted husband and skilled craftsman, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, at OhioHealth Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio, at the age of 70.
Born on July 6, 1955, in Shelby, Ohio, to the late James A. and Sarah Alice (Laferty) Haines, Jim grew up rooted in the community he called home all his life. A proud graduate of South Central High School’s class of 1973, he further honed his talents at Ehove Vocational School, specializing in Auto Body work. His journey led him to meaningful work at Bacon Chevrolet, followed by three decades of dedication at Bloom and Johnson Auto Body. In his final years of employment, he enriched the team at Shinburger Auto Body in Mansfield, leaving a legacy of excellence and commitment.
Jim’s passion extended far beyond his professional career. He found joy in the hum of motorcycle engines and the craft of woodworking, often creating heartfelt projects for his beloved wife, Tami. His hands brought life back to forgotten, rustic vehicles - countless hours lovingly spent restoring them to showroom perfection. His talent and kindness made him a cherished craftsman among friends and neighbors, all who sought his expertise not just for the skill, but for the care imbued in every restoration.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 51 years, Tamara "Tami" Haines, whom he married on October 26, 1974, as well as by a circle of dear relatives and close friends who hold him in their hearts.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Albert Haines. Though deeply missed, his spirit lives on through the enduring mark he left on family, friends, and the community he served so faithfully.
Friends and family may come to honor Jim's life from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. A memorial service will follow starting at 1:30 PM at the funeral home with Reverend Doctor Eric Abel officiating.
