Obituary

James William McClure, age 84 of Plymouth, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital.

Born September 8, 1941, in Ashland, Ohio, to the late William and Lois (Trumpower) McClure, he graduated from Hayesville High School in the class of 1959. He served our country in the Army National Guard from 1962-1968.

Jim started his career as a barber in Ashland, Ohio in 1962 and worked there until 2002. He then moved his barbering to Plymouth where he continued working at a barbershop until October of 2025. He worked just 50 yards around the corner from his wife, Nancy's beauty salon, where she was also a hairdresser. They actually met in Beauty & Barber School in Toledo Ohio in 1960. He and Nancy remodeled the entire beauty shop and adjoining apartments together, while they were dating in the 1960's. On April 18, 1971 they were married and settled down in Plymouth. They then purchased one of the first homes built in a new development that was behind Mack's grocery store and lived there for their entire married life. Never ones to sit around, he and Nancy also decided to start a coffee shop on the square beside the beauty shop called the East Main Coffee House in 1996, after a trip to Italy. Anyone that knew them also knew that Jim and Nancy were inseparable and were always seen holding hands as they walked and did everything together.

In his spare time, Jim also enjoyed woodworking, collecting nutcrackers and antiques, and was a member of the Plymouth American Legion.

Those who will cherish his memory include his wife Nancy, his children: Amy (Edward) Wilde of Shelby and Mark (Felicia) McClure of Plymouth, Ohio; his grandchildren: Jason (Audrey) Reese, Josh (Marissa) Reese, Delainey McClure, Hunter McClure and Harper McClure; his great grandchildren: Camryn and Elijah Reese.

James was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois McClure.
