James Reed Obituary James Clarence 'Jim' Reed, age 95 of Shelby passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at his home.
Jim was born May 29, 1929 in Shelby, Ohio to the late Clarence and Ohma (Waters) Reed. For seven years, he served his country in the Naval Reserve. He eventually retired from General Motors and went on to successfully run his own advertising business for several years. He was involved in sports in several capacities; coaching, officiating, and playing. His love for playing sports led to several years of playing basketball and softball with his last softball game being played at the age of 93 for the Huff-N-Puffers league. With all he accomplished in his life, his family and his faith were his driving force. His faith led to his involvement in the Shelby Civitan Club, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and the numerous activities he involved himself in, at his second home, the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Jim and his wife, Mercedes were able to share 66 years together until her passing in October of 2013. Jim was also was preceded in death by sister, Donna Clabaugh; two brothers, Dick Reed and Ned Reed; and grandson, Nicholas Butcher.
Surviving are his five children and their spouses; James S. (Becky Butcher) Reed, Debra (Stephen) Wilkinson, Jayne (Darrell) Rine, Mark (Darlene) Reed, Sue (Kelly) Stanford; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Judy Reed, Elaine Reed and Charlotte Newland.
Without the unwavering commitment of his caregivers, Dianna and Brittany the last part of Jim's earthly journey would not have been possible and the family will be forever grateful.
Family and friends are welcomed to visit at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM the following day on Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 East Main Street in Shelby with Pastor Michael Padula officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
