James R. Sutter, age 54, resident of Ply-Springmill Rd., Shelby died unexpectedly Sunday, February 22, 2009 following an apparent heart attack. Born September 4, 1954 in Shelby to the late Robert W. and Mary Jo (Fleet) Sutter he had been a lifelong Shelby area resident. A 1972 graduate of Plymouth High School he obtained his associate degree from NCTC. A veteran of the US Air Force, Jim continued serving his country with the Ohio Air National Guard 179th Tactical Airlift Group for over 20 years. He was employed with ArcelorMittal (Copperweld) since 1988 and was a former employee of UFORMA/Shelby Business Forms. Jim's easy-going personality and many interests earned him many friends. Jim would often be found in activities as diverse as reading a good history book; volunteering at local functions; visiting friends and family; running a local 5K or an out of state marathon; having a relaxing talk over a beer; or enjoying the outdoors while working around the house. Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Gilpatrick) Sutter, whom he wed June 29, 1985; his daughter, Rebecca Sutter of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Carole (John) Fistler of Hemingford, NE and Jo Anne (Robert) Essenmacher of Osseo, MI; one brother, Bill (Jeri) Sutter of Shiloh; nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, February 27, 2009 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby with Reverend John Wanamaker officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Red Cross.
