Jerry Slone, age 83 of Shelby died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his home. Born October 21, 1933 in Hemp Patch (Raven), Kentucky to Elmer & Bessie (Thornsberry) Slone, he has been a Shelby resident for 66 years. Jerry had worked at Plymouth Locomotives as the Plant Manager and retired in 1994. He then worked at Schmidt Security for about 15 years. He enjoyed horseback riding, listening to bluegrass music but most of all he loved to spend time with his extensive number of friends and his family, especially his grandchildren. Jerry is survived by one daughter, Dr. Rhonda F. (Ron) Company of Bolivar, Oh; two sons, Ronald Keith Slone of Shelby; Richard Dyer of Willard; grandchildren, Dr. Andrea Company, Dr. Amanda (Tyler Kahler) Company, Dr. Sarah (Nate) Cipar, Dr. Matthew Company, Joseph (Amber) Slone, Tabitha (Fianc, Steven) Slone, Benjamin (Rachel) Slone, Ryan Dyer, Mellissa Dyer and Katie Dyer; Great grandchildren, Canaan, Addison, Riley, Emery and Beckett; brother, Nelson (Jan) Slone of Lorain and two sisters, Evalee Holt and Minnie (Bill) Forbush all Elyria. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melba Slone in 2010; three brothers, Omar, Paul and Alex Slone and two sisters, Jackie Slone and Mary Ramsey. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday January 11, 2017 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. Pastor Chuck Keesee will officiate with interment held in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. Everyone is invited to a catered meal following the services, location will be announced at the funeral.
