Jory A. Sweet, age 26, former Shelby resident went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2011, at his home in Ashland following an unexpected illness.
He was born August 14, 1984 in Huntington, WV, the son of Vince and Kimberly (Petry) Sweet whom reside in Shelby. Jory attended Pioneer Career & Technology Center, graduating in 2003 from Shelby Sr. High School where he played football and baseball. In 2007, he received his degree from the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute and worked as a chef with several restaurants throughout the United States including Walt Disney World's EPCOT Culinary Department. He currently was employed as a lead generator with The Home Depot in Ashland.
Blessed with a gregarious personality, Jory never met a stranger. He enjoyed cooking, spending time with his family and friends, going to movies, camping and music. He was a dedicated, loving father with a big heart, passion for life, and sense of adventure. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Megan (Raphael) Sweet, whom he wed May 9, 2009; his son, Benjamin Allen Sweet; his sister, Molly Sweet of Shelby; his grandparents, Sue Petry, Richard and Phyllis Sweet, all of Shelby; mother-in-law, Jennifer Raphael of Mansfield; father-in-law, Alan (Rhonda) Raphael of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Erin (Cory) Young of Shelby; brother-in-law, Nick Raphael of Mansfield; his wife's grandparents, John and Barbara Harris of Lexington, Thomas and Jo-Ann Raphael of Mansfield; aunts, uncles, cousins and many loving friends.
Jory was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Petry.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Linda Heinlen will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Sweet family for Benjamin's education.
