Kathleen Shafer Obituary Kathleen Shafer, age 69, resident of Mansfield, went to be with her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, November 2, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 26, 1955 in Orrville, Ohio to Robert 'Bobby' and Martha (Vinson) Cardwell, she had been a resident of Mansfield for the majority of her life. A 1974 graduate of Mansfield Senior, Kathy attended the Mansfield Beauty College following her high school graduation. She was employed with Lazarus in Mansfield for over 20 years before working along side her husband Bob, as a secretary for Shafer's Landscaping in Mansfield for over 15 years.
Kathy had a love for gardening, and enjoyed tending to her flowers. She was passionate about art and was a very talented painter. Kathy was happiest when she was near the water. Whether she was taking trips with friends to the beaches of Florida, or the Caribbean, she always looked forward to vacations in the sunshine. She was passionate about animals and went out of her way to feed all the birds and neighborhood stray cats. For many years she raised English Labradors and she especially loved her beloved K-9 companion Jake. In recent months, Kathy had a new 'baby girl', Jasmine, her miniature Highland Calf. She not only had a caring heart for her animals, but for her family. More than anything her son and grandchildren were her greatest joy's.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years Robert 'Bob' Shafer, whom she wed Valentines day, February 14, 2003; her pride and joy, her son Chris (Taylor) Schraedly of Mansfield; her grandchildren, Paisley, Brook and Wade Schraedly and River and Rain Peyton; two siblings Rob (Desiree) Cardwell of Nashville, TN, Gary (Lisa) Cardwell of Mansfield; one uncle L.K. Vinson of Mansfield, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends who will miss her deeply.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elka and Myrtle Vinson; and two aunts Wilma Vinson and Cora Cardwell.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her loving daughter-in-law, Taylor Schraedly, for being a dedicated caregiver who was by Kathy's side everyday as she finished her race of life.
Per the families wishes, services will not be observed.
In place of flowers, donations in Kathy's memory can be made to the Richland County Humane Society at 3025 Park Ave W, Ontario, OH 44906.
Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
