Kathryn Ann "Kay" Hubert, age 74, resident of Shelby, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, January 26, 2009 in MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.
Born August 7, 1934 in Bucyrus to John A. and Agnes Rose (Berry) McKnight she had been a Shelby resident the majority of her life. A 1952 graduate of Maumee High School, she attended Bowling Green State University. Kay was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker who always put her family first. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and meeting her friends for lunch. She also cherished watching her great-grandaughters dancing in her sun-room. Kay rejoiced in her family but also in the journey with Christ.
Kay was a member of the Quaker faith where she found peace in prayer and fellowship. She also attended the First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching classes in spiritual journaling and prayer. In recent years Kay found additional spiritual enrichment through the Unity Church in Lexington.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert J. Hubert, one son, Daniel (Wanda) Hubert of Elyria; two daughters, Jennifer (Fred) Furr of Shelby and Julie Hubert Myers of Shelby; six grandchildren, Daniel J. Hubert, Valerie (Brian) Lehman, David (Mindy) Hubert, Neil (Amber) Furr, Kathryn (Donald) Davies, and Rose Furr; seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Adam, Macey, Lillian, Samantha, Mia, and Malina; one brother, John (Marsha) McKnight of Evanston, IL, and sister-in-law, Mary Morgan McKnight of Canada; one nephew, Jonathan McKnight and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, David McKnight, her great grandson, David Daniel Hubert and one nephew, Scott McKnight.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, January 30, 2009 from the First United Methodist Church in Shelby. Rev. Tom Snyder and Rev. Elena Langstaff will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center.
